Female, 25, An attractive, passionate, vibrant young woman with a romantic view of the world. Fresh out of her MFA writing program, Gwen is trying to reconcile the expectations of her wealthy family with her artistic passions. Must be charming and have a charismatic and magnetic personality.
Singing range: Mezzo, belts to a C
Wardrobe: Casual, hip – city girl
[PORTER]
Male, 24, A painter who owns the Bedroom Window, a gallery/café/lounge. Porter knows exactly what he wants and is perfectly content with himself. Sexy, intriguing and often underspoken.
Singing range: Tenor, belts to an A, falsetto to a B
Wardrobe: 90’s grunge, casual/hip
[MICHAEL]
Male, 24, Gwen and Johnny’s best friend since high school. Michael is a young, struggling actor who can make light of any situation. He is quirky, offbeat, endearing and hopelessly in love with Gwen.
Singing range: Tenor, belts to an A
Wardrobe: Casual, hip
[JOHNNY]
Male, 23, Gwen’s younger brother. Johnny works for his father at the Davenport Consulting Firm. He is a tightly-wound business professional who is clean-cut on the outside, but harbors angst. He appears wrought over trying to live up to his family’s expectations, but it must be a surprise that Johnny is also dealing with his sexual identity.
Singing range: Tenor, belts to a G#
Wardrobe: Business Attire
[JAMES]
Male, 30, Porter’s older brother. James is an emergency room doctor who was forced to take the practical path. A grounded, understanding and kind man who clashes with Porter. He carries a sort of respectable sadness that comes from always putting others before himself.
Singing range: Bass-toned Baritone, Belt to an E
Wardrobe: Business Casual
[NIK]
Female, 25, Manages the Bedroom Window. An intelligent, together and in-charge, yet foxy young businesswoman. In love with Porter, though she knows he doesn’t return her affection. Could have worked on Wall Street, but chooses to stay close to Porter. Spunky, vivacious and flirty.
Singing range: Alto/Mezzo, Belt to a C, able to sing E flat below middle C
Wardrobe: Hip Business Casual
[GEORGE]
Male, 29, Gwen’s longtime boyfriend. A corporate businessman who is calculating, logical and seemingly without emotion. His main concerns are reputation and propriety.
Does not sing.
Wardrobe: Business Attire
[LILY]
Female, 18 to play 16, James and Porters younger sister. James is like a father to her, but she identifies more with Porter’s creativity and free spirit. The actress playing Lily will also double as an ensemble member.
Any vocal range.
Wardrobe: Casual
[WOMAN (JANE)]
Female, 50-60, A sort of narrator who delivers monologues at intervals throughout the show. She serves as a frame for the audience, reading from a manuscript of Gwen’s she has just discovered. The audience is unclear about her identity until her importance is revealed at the end of the show.

An additional ensemble of 3 men and 2 women will be cast to perform and understudy the principal roles.
